The "Gray Man" Principle
• Blend In: Wear neutral colors (gray, brown, blue) and non-tactical clothing.
• Keep a Low Profile: Do not wear or display expensive, military, or obvious "prepper" gear.
• Control Movement: Walk at the average pace of the crowd. Avoid scanning the environment nervously or making sudden movements
• Situational Awareness: Constantly practice the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act). Be aware of the emotion/posture of the crowd and identify exits and cover at all times.
Shelter Security (Shelter-in-Place)
• Harden the Shelter: Lock and block all doors/windows. Move to an interior room with the fewest windows
• Disable Airflow: Turn off A/C, heat, and fans to stop drawing outside air.
• Seal Against Contaminants: Use plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal cracks around doors and vents if a chemical/biological threat is present.
Conflict Avoidance
• De-Escalation: Your goal is to escape, not engage. Create distance, keep your hands visible, and use calm language.
• Identify Pre-Threat Indicators: Recognize signs of aggression (raised voices, posturing, isolating behavior) and leave the area before conflict escalates.
